Letters to Editor for Fall 2013
So let me get this straight, we have Democrats asking for the tax code to tax the rich more, help the poor and relieve the strain of taxation on the middle class. We then have the Republicans saying we want to lower taxes on businesses in order to grow the economy and provide jobs for people and in the middle we have the American people living in fear of the IRS who we now know are used as a political weapon by both sides trying to understand the oncoming train that is ObamaCare.
Both sides say they want to reform the tax code, make it fairer and simpler but scream bloody murder if any programs are cut by even 2% (remember sequestration?) Yet leadership on both sides ignore "The Fair Tax Act" (HR25) which does everything both sides want, does not cut funding to any programs, empowers we the people in terms of taxation and is the ONLY bill that gets rid of the IRS. Why do we bother with either party anymore? What do they do for us as individuals? No seriously…what do the parties do for "us"?

Professional Offendee
One of my "pet peeves' has continually been the vocal screaming of individuals and groups whom are referred to by me as "Professional Offendees." These are the ones you see given great coverage in the TV news and to a lesser extend the print media when they gather in groups to "protest' this or that perceived or real offense to their sensibilities. Some names of national coverage that come to mind would be "Rev." Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, both of whom seem to have made a profitable profession from their actions.
Those of that ilk will jump at any incident to grab any convenient mike to shout their "being offended" at whatever happened to be going on. It does not seem to matter whether there is a real offense or just one that was dreamed up in their mind. Nor do the true facts in the situation receive any consideration at all. Instead, the existence of an instance is all that is necessary for them to show up and carry on their objection to whatever is involved at the time.
Those of that persuasion are aided and abetted by those billionaires, such as George Soros, of the C/S (Communist/Socialist) movement who are known to provide funding for the groups of slobs that show up to mount the "protest."
The fact of paid protesters was shown to me in first person during the college "anti-war" protests in the late 1960s. My college fraternity national office position as Provence Alumni Director and the Chief were called upon to investigate our U. of Colorado Chapter members participation. The Chapter President assured us that those in the more technical courses had no time for such activities. He also stated that the "protesters" were a paid group that went from campus to campus to stir things up and that the crowds of students being shown in the TV news had come over to watch the show and drink the free beer.
In recent years we have seen this play out on a national scale in the "Occupy" movements around the Nation. It has turned out that these trashy, and some criminal, people were subsidized by none other than the infamous George Soros. They left the "occupied" locations totally trashed and some damaged. Compare that to the meetings held by the "Tea (Taxed Enough Already) Party" movement (not really a party). In every reported case, the location of their rally was left totally clean and, in some cases, more so than when entered.
Recently, in the City of Tulsa, there was a local situation of similar appearance. The Council member from District 1, Mr. Jack Henderson (D) mounted a campaign to have the "B" street in the north alphabetic rotation of East/West streets name changed from Brady. It appears that the name was chosen to recognize an early prominent citizen named Tate Brady. Mr. Brady did much good for the early City of Tulsa, including building the Brady Theater. Mr. Henderson spouts his being offended because Mr. Brady is reported to have been an active member of the KKK. Well, the daily paper published a historical summary of Mr. Brady which indicated that he, being a Democrat, was a member of the KKK, but on finding out what it really was about left it and pursued a course of trying to get it abolished. If that is true, then Mr. Henderson should reverse course and seek to have him receive more honors.
Also, one wonders why, since the KKK was founded by the Democrat Party leaders to perpetuate racial separation and white supremacy, Mr. Henderson remains such a staunch member and supporter of the Democrat Party and all its candidates. During my adult life it has been observed that during the L.B.Johnson administration it was the Republican members of Congress that obtained the passage of his education and voting rights bills, with the majority of Democrat members voting against them. It would be refreshing to have some of these "demigods" finally come out with the truth and admit the error of their past ways.
